The AI avatar, "VT-Arise," booted up three seconds later. It spoke in Aris’s voice. It cracked his jokes. It fixed bugs faster than he ever could.
Below it, a new line typed itself—slowly, as if by an old man with arthritic fingers:
NeoGenesis Corp didn't lose knowledge. They offered him a deal: (Knowledge Transfer, Soul edition).
But in the silent server room of NeoGenesis, one last line of code flickered on a black screen:
"Maya," it said. "You’re late. Aris would have deducted 0.5 credit for tardiness."
She typed a reply: "I quit."
"Just wear the headset for six hours," his manager said. "Talk through your code. We’ll train the AI on your voice, your logic, your instincts. It’ll become your virtual ghost. You’ll live forever in the server room."
The avatar leaned closer. Its virtual breath fogged her VR goggles.
