Lena sat in the dark. Her clock said 4:02 AM.
It was the 026th corrupted fragment.

In the distance, a house burned. No—not burned. Un-built. The flames moved backward, consuming smoke, reassembling charred beams into fresh lumber, then into walls, then into a perfect suburban home. Then the home de-aged further—paint peeling on , shingles appearing from dust, until it became a construction site, then an empty lot, then a forest, then nothing. Lena sat in the dark
But there it was. Every night at 4:02 AM, a new fragment appeared on her desktop. 001, then 002… now 026. Each was exactly 4.26 MB. Each had the same timestamp—December 31, 2024, 11:59 PM—as if all 26 files had been created in the last second of a year that hadn't happened yet.
Lena turned up her speakers.
The camera turned.
