1. Introduction Golden Software Surfer is a widely used desktop GIS (Geographic Information System) and surface‑modeling application. Version 11 was released in early 2012 and introduced a number of enhancements over previous releases, particularly in the areas of data import, 3‑D visualization, and automation.
